SOCIAL & CULTURAL CONTEXTS in THE OBSERVER 1960s

- Adverts are shown of women wearing underwear for men to see - women are treated as objects or possessions

- Queen Elizabeth visits the mourning valley

- Actor Jane Asher (very small picture)

- Corset adverts on front page

- Black women with a white male - Jackie: we're very happy

Bullet points of every mention of representation of ethnicity:

- Black woman being shown with a black man - on front page because  of how unusual it was  

- A mention of black power

- No other black people - racism?

- when they are shown it has something to do with their race, unlike when white people are shown
